British Construction Industry Building Award

In the year 2003, the building won the British Construction Industry Building Award and in addition to that the title of Large Visitor Attraction of the Year in 2006 as well.

The 3 basic elements of the building symbolize the air shard, the earth shard and the water shard. These want to represent the areas where battles are fought, which fits into the concept of a war museum...

Description

The Imperial War Museum North is a war museum in Trafford Park in Trafford, Greater Manchester, England. Opened in July 2002, it is one of five branches of the Imperial War Museum, and the first outside the southeast of England. The building is an example of deconstructivist Architecture, designed by world-renowned architect Daniel Libeskind. Construction cost were about £28 million.
