

Due to security reasons, the observation deck was closed by airport authorities. There was also an incident in 2007 concerning the building structure of the restaurant: "Inspectors uncovered the problem after a 1,000-pound piece of white stucco fell off the underside of one of the arches and smashed into the eatery's roof." (LA Times).

At the center of Los Angeles International Airport stands the landmark which is home to the Encounter Restaurant and Bar. With 135-foot high parabolic arches and a futuristic design, the Theme Building was the first structure in the U.S. to utilize supporting steel arches of this design. About 900 tons of steel were used to create the building. The fabricated sections include four upper arch sections, four lower sections, four horizontal legs as well as tension and compression rings.
