Description

One of the most famous spaces in Berlin is the East Side Gallery, a strip of the original wall that has been left as a monument to the division of the city where artists began painting a mural in the 1990s. With the area now under official protection, the City Hall held two competitions, one in 2003 and the other in 2006, for ideas on developing the surrounding area. Haefner/Jimenez won both competitions and work began on the first part in July 2006.
