What is ourbania?

ourbania is an online community of real estate enthusiasts. ourbania gives you the opportunity to explore all sorts of urban items worldwide, from office buildings to landmarks. As active citizen of ourbania, you vote for your favourite urban items, leave comments, build your own and link them to your personal profile. By doing this, you learn a lot on urban development, architecture, lifestyle. Additionally, you meet like-minded people from around the world. ourbania has no commercial interests.

How much does it cost to use ourbania?

It is completely free of charge using the community.

Look here for our Terms and Conditions of Use. It also contains the key points of our Privacy Policy. To point that out: We will never pass personal information to another party.

How can I contact ourbania?

You can leave us a message using our feedback form. For suggestions you can post a comment to our blog.

How can I join ourbania?

If you want to become part of the global community, simply sign up. You Simply have to provide basic account information such as your preferred username and password and to accept the terms of use. After signing-up, we send a confirmation e-mail to the address you have provided. Click the confirmation link in this e-mail to get to your profile. Please take a moment to tell others more about you and to upload a picture. Then can start building new urban items and to share your experience with others.

What is my profile and how can I change it?

It is your face at ourbania. Other citizens can see it completely; unregistered users can only see your picture and personal description. To update your profile, go to the "My Profile"-page and click on "Edit profile" in the options-box. Furthermore, you can change your e-mail address, password, picture and signature by using the link "Edit Account" in the options-box. Your username is the only data that cannot be changed by you. Click on "Submit" to save your data. Because your profile is your face in the community, it would be nice to have a picture of you. For best results, please use a picture with at least 97 pixels wide and 129 pixels tall. We will resize and crop it as needed.

I forgot my password, what can I do?

First be sure you entered it correctly. If you have forgotten your password, click on "Request new Password" on the login page. Enter your e-mail address or username and we will send you a new password.

How can I change my password?

To change your current user password, go to your profile and click on "Edit account" in the options-box. Enter the new password in both fields "password" and "confirm password". Click on "Submit" to save your updated data.

How can I cancel my citzenship?

If you want to cancel your citizenship, please e-mail us at support@ourbania.com or use the feedback form. We delete your account and all your person-related data.

Why should I include a description about me?

In the description about yourself you can write your motto or tell the other citizens what you do and why you are a real estate enthusiasts. The more you write here, the better the chance to be found by other citizens and to gain recognition.

What are points and how can I earn them?

If you are a citizen of ourbania (which means you have signed up), you earn points for these activities:

• 10 points for building a new item.
• 2 points for posting a comment.
• 2 points for inviting a friend.
• 5 points if the invited friend signs up.

What does "Invite Friends" mean? How can I invite friends?

If you know other real estate enthusiasts, or people interested in urban development and architectural issues, you may want to invite them to join ourbania. Your friends receive the invitation as e-mail with a link to the community. For every invitation you earn 2 points. In case the invited user registers, you earn 5 points additionally. Invite friends

Why should I add someone to my contacts?

With ourbania, you can meet like-minded people and get connected within the real estate network to share your interests. Add other citizens as a contact and be part of the community. One the one side, contacts can be either confirmed or denied, so the citizen you have added has to decide if he or she wants to be your contact. On the other side, citizens may want to add you as their contact. In that case you have to confirm or deny the request.

How to add/remove a citizen from my contacts?

You can add any citizen to your contacts. Go to the profile of the citizen and click on the "Add to Contact" link in the options-box. You have to confirm your request to send the query to the citizen. If you want to remove a citizen from your contacts, you can click on the "Remove from Contacts"-Link in the "My Network" tab of your own profile. The contact will be instantly removed from your profile.

What is an urban item?

Urban Items are all buildings that shape our cities worldwide – innovative existing and future projects, from bridges to scyscrapers. In the community various data can be entered to define and describe the urban item. General facts, real estate details, related links and documents and the geographical position are just a selection of possibilities to describe a building in the online community.

How can I build an urban item?

First of all, you have to sign-up to ourbania. As active citizen, you build urban items by submitting description and photos to ourbania. The submission form is under Build new Item.

What are Tags and why should I use them?

Tags are keywords, which you can use to categorize urban items. You can search for a tag you are interested in. Defining tags for urban items make search processes for all citizens and users easier and more efficient. The rank of certain tags can be seen in tag clouds on homepage and tags page. Frequently used tags are highlighted by bigger font sizes. Popular tags are bigger than less popular ones.

How can I upload pictures?

You can add photos from Flickr.com, the global photo community. Search for a picture and copy the photo ID from the URL. Please note that you should have the permission to use them. You can use your own photos, ask for a written permission from the Flickr user or look for photos published under the "Creative Commons License". What does "Link to my profile" mean?

This functionality makes it possible to create a personal connection to a certain urban item on ourbania. By clicking on this hyperlink the urban item will be added to your profile. Additionally you can enter personal notes to show your individual connection to the building; i. e. "architect", "resident", "visitor" or "project member". This information can highlight your personal relation to the building and underlines your competencies.

Search – How do I find citizens/cities/items/…?

You can search for urban items or website content using the search box at the top of every page. If you want to find a certain citizen, use the citizens search on the citizens page.
To find urban items, you can also look for a tag on the tag page.
