Award & construction delays

As I know, the AIA presented the architect Cobb with a National Honor Award for the John Hancock Tower in 1977.

In contrast to the sucessful completion of the building many problems arose during the construction period. Many delays and severe engineering and construction problems as falling glass panes had a massive effect on building costs. The estimated investment volume of $75,000,000 could not be realised.

Plane collides with Pirelli Building

On April 18, 2002 a bi-propelled Piper plane originating in Switzerland crashed into the 25th floor of the Pirelli Building in downtown Milan. Apparently the pilot had lost control over the plane, due to technical problems. In an attempt to bring the plane down safely, the pilot issued an SOS emergency call before colliding with the building.
